ACADEMICS

Academies

The curriculum adopted is that prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and includes the core subjects of language , mathematics, science (physics, chemistry, biology and biotechnology) social sciences, information technology, general knowledge, value education and physical education. The preprimary section has developed its own curriculum based on a balanced approach of the best of Montessori and kindergarten methods that include projects, cocurricular activities such as watersport, dance, music, field trips and computer-aided education.

Education would fail ignominiously in its objective, if it manufactured only a robot and called him an economic man accenting the adjective ‘economic’ and forgetting the substantive ‘man’. A university cannot afford to ignore the cultural aspects of education, whatever studies it specializes in. Science is a means, not an end, whereas culture is an end in itself. Even though you may ultimately become a scientist, a doctor, or an engineer, you must, while in college, absorb fundamental values which will make you a man of culture. An engineer has not merely to build bridges; he has to be devoted husband, a kind father, a friendly neighbour, a dutiful citizen, and a man true to himself. He will have trials and tribulations; his heart will fail him at times; he will then need the strength which true culture alone can give

spiritual wisdom would disseminate from this place and spread the message of universal brotherhood. This would go a long way in establishing permanent peace in the world, which today is full of malice, jealously, frustration, anger and greed. Initially a mirage for many, it has now emerged to be a source of inspiration and guiding spirit for many an educational institution. It has caught imagination of the masses, who wish their children to become not only trained professionals but good human beings as well. The legacy of 'Guru' and 'Shishya' in the Gurukul traditions, that has been bequeathed upon us, is not only being maintained and nurtured but redefined as well, to suit the changing times.

OBJECTIVES

Today's youth stands on crossroads. Students have an easy access to the media which exposes them to the materialistic glare. Children are thus getting divorced from the ancient culture, as also their glorious heritage. Required today are schools which can offer the children latest technological developments in a pure, stimulating and spiritual environment away from the destabilizing influence of the media. We need Gurukuls which can strengthen the roots of our children, expose them to the spiritual realm, teach them to have respect for values and morals and develop in them the uncanny ability to discern right from wrong. Keeping the above in view, Akal Academy, Baru Sahib has been established to achieve the following objectives:-

  • Ÿ To develop in the students a trained intellect to enable them to adjust themselves in the fast changing world.

  • Ÿ To create among the students a strong sense of duty and discipline.

  • Ÿ To inculcate in students a love for nature and respect for all forms of life.

  • Ÿ To help students to become better human beings through process of self-realization and service to the mankind.

  • Ÿ To cultivate in the students a mind which is aware and awake.

  • Ÿ To instill in the students a global outlook and sense of belongingness to the whole humanity.

  • Ÿ To have zeal to do the best in all domains of life. To motivate the students to achieve excellence in whatever field they participate.

  • Ÿ And above all, to equip them to tread the path of sewa and simran and through it to be one with Almighty.

Club Activities provide opportunities for students to widen their knowledge and keep them updated with the latest information from the Internet, various library resources and personal observations — and to participate in intra- and interschool competitions in mathematics, science, social sciences, art and literature.

Regular Field Trips are organized to places of curriculum-related educational importance so that all students (Nursery, Primary and Middle School classes) are given the opportunity to explore, experience and expand the knowledge they derive in the classroom.
